Kathy Russell was our CF Superhero! Since her diagnosis at 12-years-old in 1956, she has conquered CF. Against all odds, she survived the days when few medications were available for CF and the life expectancy was less than 10 years. Due to breakthroughs in research and treatments, Kathy was able to maintain good health and embrace life with her husband Paul all throughout her 70s!

Kathy was active in the CF community since the 1960s. In the 1990s she and some of our other heroes with CF founded CF Roundtable. Since then she imparted her humor and wisdom in her quarterly CF Roundtable column “Speeding Past 50” and served on the Executive Board in many capacities. Kathy was our Managing Editor before she retired from an active role with USACFA in 2019. We are inspired by her amazing experiences and devotion to the CF community.

"Volunteering on CF Roundtable for 27 years has given me the opportunity to make so many friends who understand CF. Some I have met and others I know only through telephone calls and e-mail. Although I never could say that I am happy to have CF, I am so happy that I have made so many friends because of CF. If I hadn't had CF, I would have missed out on knowing some wonderful people who are just like family to me." - Kathy
